Most career assessments will tell you who you are.
Very few will tell you where to go.
That is exactly where ProfileXT® Helps Executive Black Women do something different.
If you are a senior Black woman in tech navigating a career transition, whether you have just been laid off, are planning a pivot, or are simply exhausted by an industry that has not valued you the way it should. You need more than a personality framework. You need a strategic decision-making tool.
That is what ProfileXT® delivers. And understanding how it works may be one of the most important investments you make in the next chapter of your career.
In this post, I will walk you through exactly what ProfileXT® measures, how it differs from other assessments you have likely taken, why it is uniquely powerful for career transitions, and how I use it as the foundation of executive coaching for Black women navigating pivots from tech.
What Is Profile XT®? A Plain-Language Breakdown that Shows How ProfileXT® Helps Executive Black Women
Profile XT® is a psychometric assessment developed by Profiles Incorporated. It is built on what its developers call the Total Person Concept, the idea that to truly understand someone’s career fit, you cannot look at one dimension of who they are. You have to look at the whole person.
So rather than measuring a single trait or categorizing you into a personality type, Profile XT® examines three distinct dimensions simultaneously.
Dimension 1: Thinking and Reasoning Style. This includes both verbal reasoning (how you process and communicate information) and numeric reasoning (how you work with data, patterns, and quantitative problems). This dimension reflects your cognitive horsepower and how you naturally approach complex challenges.
Dimension 2: Behavioral Traits. This covers the full spectrum of how you are naturally wired to work: your energy level and pace, your assertion style, your decision-making approach, your openness to change, your interpersonal orientation, and how you manage pressure and ambiguity. These are not values or skills that you learned, they are the natural behavioral tendencies you bring to every professional environment.
Dimension 3: Professional Interests. What types of work genuinely engage you? Where does your energy go when you are doing work that matters to you? These interest patterns are not the same as your skills, they reflect what you are intrinsically drawn toward, which turns out to be one of the strongest predictors of long-term career satisfaction.
When you combine all three, you get what Profile XT® calls your Total Person Profile, a remarkably complete picture of who you are as a professional, and the foundation for identifying where you are most likely to thrive.
How Is Profile XT® Different From Other Career Assessments? And Why ProfileXT® Helps Executive Black Women
You have probably taken assessments before. Myers-Briggs. StrengthsFinder. The DISC. Possibly an Enneagram or a Big Five personality instrument.
These are valuable tools. I am not dismissing them.
But they share a significant limitation: they tell you about yourself without telling you where to direct yourself.
What Makes Profile XT® Uniquely Powerful for Career Transitions?
The distinguishing feature of the ProfileXT® is its Job Match Report capability.
The ProfileXT® comes with already-established reliability and validity, which means the science behind it is sound before you ever sit down to take it. Once you complete the assessment, we can use your results to build performance models aligned to the career roles you are targeting. Whether that is a healthcare technology director, a FinTech strategy leader, or a government consulting executive. Rather than comparing you to a pre-set external benchmark, we use your profile as the foundation and map it against the characteristics associated with high performance in your desired direction.
This means the process is both personalized and strategic. Your results are not interpreted in a vacuum, they are analyzed in the context of where you want to go, giving you a data-informed picture of your strengths, your fit, and your opportunity areas within specific roles and industries.
For someone who has spent 15 years in tech and genuinely does not know where else they could succeed, this is not a personality quiz. This is a career targeting system.
It removes the guesswork. And for Black women navigating a career transition with the added weight of impostor syndrome, it replaces guesswork with something far more powerful: evidence.

What Does Profile XT® Actually Measure? The Three Dimensions in Depth
Cognitive Reasoning: How You Think and Process Information
The thinking and reasoning dimension of Profile XT® measures your natural cognitive style, not your knowledge, not your credentials, but the underlying way your mind works. It looks at verbal reasoning (how you handle language-based complexity) and numeric reasoning (how you handle data, quantitative relationships, and mathematical logic).
For senior Black women in tech, this dimension almost always reveals high cognitive engagement with complex systems and analytical problems. What the assessment then shows is that this same cognitive profile maps strongly onto healthcare leadership, financial analysis, policy consulting, and organizational strategy roles, because those roles also require high-level systems thinking and analytical rigor.
The practical insight: your brain is not a “tech brain.” It is a high-cognitive-capacity brain that tech hired. Other industries need that same brain.
Behavioral Traits: How You Are Naturally Wired to Lead and Work
This is often where the most revealing insights emerge for career-pivoting clients.
The behavioral dimension of Profile XT covers multiple trait scales: how you naturally direct energy and sustain momentum, how you balance assertiveness with diplomacy, how you approach decision-making, how you manage change, how you structure your environment, and how you interact with others.
What frequently surprises senior tech professionals is how clearly these behavioral traits map onto non-tech leadership roles. A woman who describes herself as “just a technical person” often has a behavioral profile that shows strong collaboration orientation, high interpersonal engagement, a preference for mission-driven environments, and a natural inclination toward mentoring and developing others.
Those are not tech traits. Those are leadership traits that her tech career has housed, and that other industries are actively looking for.
Work Interests: What Genuinely Engages You
The professional interests dimension measures what types of work activities produce genuine engagement versus what you have simply been trained to perform competently.
This distinction matters enormously.
Many senior Black women in tech are excellent at their jobs, but have been excellent at jobs that do not fully align with their intrinsic interests. The result is the particular kind of exhaustion that comes not from overwork but from sustained misalignment. You can perform brilliantly in a role that does not truly fit you. But it costs something.
The interests dimension of Profile XT® helps identify not just where you can succeed, but where success will feel like it fits.
How Does the Profile XT Assessment Work in Practice?
When we begin working together, I will send you a private link so you can take the Profile XT® assessment online in the comfort of your own home. It typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes to complete, unless, of course, you do what I did when I took it. I ended up having company come over about 30 minutes into the assessment.
It was no big deal because all I had to do was close it out, spend time with my guests, and then come back later to finish. Your progress is saved, and you can pick up right where you left off without it affecting your score. It is also designed as what is called a “power test,” meaning it is not strictly timed, and you are encouraged to move at a pace that allows you to reflect and respond as accurately as possible.
You do not need to prepare for Profile XT®. You cannot study for it, and there are no right or wrong answers. Its validity depends on honest, unguarded responses, which means your role is simply to engage with each question as authentically as possible.
After you complete the assessment, your results are analyzed and compiled into a comprehensive, multi-page report. I receive the report, and then we meet in session where I walk you through a detailed analysis so you fully understand what your results mean. And just as importantly, what they do not mean. This clarity is critical. From there, I use your results as the foundation for building your personalized career transition roadmap, ensuring every next step is grounded in data, alignment, and strategy.
Is Profile XT® Validated and Reliable?
Yes. Profile XT® is a validated, research-backed psychometric instrument with documented reliability across a wide range of industries and professional levels. Training Solutions notes that it has been used by organizations in over 122 countries for selection, development, and succession planning.
It is not a casual self-assessment. It is a professional-grade tool, and it should be interpreted by someone trained to use it, which is exactly how I incorporate it into my coaching practice.
Why Is Profile XT® Specifically Valuable for Tech Professionals Pivoting Into New Industries?
For a general career pivot, any good assessment might be useful. But for senior Black women in tech specifically, Profile XT® addresses three dynamics that are uniquely present in this transition.
It dismantles the “tech is all I know” belief with data. When a woman who has spent 15 years in software engineering sees her Profile XT® results and discovers she has an 84% match to healthcare technology leadership roles and a 79% match to organizational consulting, the belief that her options are limited becomes very difficult to maintain. This is not encouragement. It is evidence.
It separates what you can do from what you are built to do. After years in tech, many senior professionals have developed capabilities in areas that do not naturally engage them. Profile XT® helps distinguish the skills you have developed from the environments where you will thrive, so that the next role is not just viable, but genuinely sustainable.
It provides a foundation for the entire transition strategy. The Profile XT® results do not just answer “where should I go?”, they inform how to position your narrative for that direction, what to emphasize in a new industry’s language, and where your natural behavioral profile will resonate most strongly with hiring decision-makers.
How I Use Profile XT® in My Coaching Methodology
Profile XT® is the foundation of my V.I.P. Roadmap Sessions for career-transitioning clients. Here is how it integrates into the work:
Before our session, you complete the Profile XT® assessment. I review your results in detail, looking at your cognitive profile, your behavioral trait patterns, and your interest alignment, and cross-referencing each against industry benchmarks relevant to your background and goals.
When we meet, we begin by walking through what your profile reveals, what it suggests about where you are naturally positioned, where there is strong alignment you may not have considered, and where there are potential friction points worth knowing about before you commit to a direction.
Then we use that data as the foundation for everything else: your target industry list, your narrative repositioning, your executive brand pivot, your 90-day action plan. Every strategic decision is grounded in objective information about who you are and where you fit, not in guesswork, market trends alone, or the fear that is driving most decisions in the immediate aftermath of a layoff.
The result is a transition strategy that is not just hopeful. It is evidence-based.
You Deserve Clarity, Not Guesswork
The career transition moment is high-stakes. The decisions you make in the next three to six months will shape the next decade of your professional life. You deserve to make those decisions with the best possible information, not just a resume, a network, and a hope that something will land.
That is what Profile XT® provides. And that is why I built it into the foundation of the career transition coaching work I do with Black women navigating the kind of pivot that a tech layoff demands.
If you are showing signs that executive coaching support is what you need right now, and you are serious about making a strategic, grounded next move, my V.I.P. Lead With E.A.S.E.™ program includes the Profile XT® assessment as the starting point for every career transition engagement.
You will leave our work together not with a vague sense of direction, but with a ranked list of industries where your profile is a strong natural fit, a clear narrative for presenting yourself in those spaces, and a concrete roadmap for the next 90 days.
The guesswork is optional. The clarity is available.
You have already built something extraordinary. Now let the data show you where to build next. Schedule a V.I.P. Roadmap session with me today. And learn how how the ProfileXT® helps executive Black women pivot powerfully.
