Fifteen years ago, when I created my first business, I didn’t see many examples of Black women entrepreneurs. Representation was scarce, and finding mentors or role models who looked like me felt nearly impossible. Back then, entrepreneurship often seemed like a path reserved for others. Not because we lacked talent or vision, but because our stories weren’t being told or seen.
Today, social media has completely changed that narrative. Platforms like LinkedIn, TikTok, and Instagram have given Black women entrepreneurs unprecedented visibility. These digital spaces have become global stages where we can showcase expertise, share our journeys, and attract clients who align with our values.
Seeing so many successful Black women entrepreneurs thriving online has created a powerful domino effect. Inspiring others to step out, build boldly, and believe that entrepreneurship is not only possible but also sustainable, fulfilling, and deeply aligned with purpose. 🌍
Yet, in spite of the growing number of Black women entrepreneurs, many Black women still aren’t sure how to take that leap into entrepreneurship. I felt this way when I started my entrepreneurship journey. And when I began coaching women to start their own businesses over 15 years ago, and I still see it today. Too many are still following the career advice we were given growing up: get an education, find a stable job, keep your head down, and work two, three, or four times as hard as everyone else to succeed.
That mindset served a purpose once, but it also keeps many brilliant women playing small. This is exactly why my coaching business includes an entrepreneurship component. To help Black women unlearn those outdated rules, embrace confidence, and build the freedom-filled careers they truly deserve. 💼✨
